iCrossing update: Google CTR x3 higher than Yahoo!

Posted by Greg Lyons | October 7th 2008

So you want to maximise your paid search click-through rate (CTR), while paying as little as possible. But, is it better to bid a lot to ensure a top position, or is it more efficient to pay less to get a middle of the range position? Also, what sort of returns can you expect from a top or middle of the range position?

To answer these questions we need to begin with understanding the average CTR of each position in the paid-search listings and the average cost-per-click (CPC) for that position.

How to check if a website has been tagged on del.icio.us

Posted by Adam Boulton | February 7th 2008

Finding out if pages on your site have been tagged on del.icio.us provides an excellent metric for measuring how useful your site is to your users. With the assumption being if they are tagging it, they are loving it!

You can check if a webpage has been tagged in delicious by visiting del.icio.us/url and typing in the webpage you want to check. The results show which pages have been tagged, by which users and using what tags. A RSS feed is also provided so that you can get notifications of when a particular page is tagged.

This information is great as it allows you to understand which pages are being useful to your website’s audience, but it’s only possible to manually check whether individual pages have been tagged. Del.icio.us provides no way to automatically check every page on a website.

Using Yahoo Pipes, however, we have created a tool that can check an entire site for del.iou.us tags, and provide an RSS feed to alert when new pages are tagged.

The pipe can be found here. Due to some of the limitations of yahoo pipes it will only work on sites that have fewer than 1,000 tags. For example it won’t work on bbc.co.uk.

We hope you find the tool useful - if you have any questions on how it works please send us an email or leave a comment below.

65 million consumers per day and counting

Posted by Arjo Ghosh | December 6th 2007

We are collecting in excess of 65 million consumers’ data every day at iCrossing. This data includes indications on people’s needs and behaviours - it is a staggering mine of useful information.

We collect it from search marketing, display campaigns and user behaviour tracking in real-time and, when compared with how marketing has been historically measured, with amazing accuracy… We have tools and people who work everyday to mine this data to develop actionable insights, and clients who are building business strategy based on this bigger, better, and faster way of connecting with consumers.

I’m totally convinced digital is not only going to become the driver of marketing tomorrow, but is largely already there, we’re just getting our ducks in a row. As Herzog says, ‘digital at the centre’.

It’s easy for those of us looking at digital everyday to take it for granted. Some days I just have to pinch myself and say ‘wow’, this is groundbreaking stuff…
